Description

Nat Hagee is a San Antonio-based author, survivor and advocate for honest conversations about trauma, identity and healing. Their debut memoir, Surviving Hagee, is a deeply personal account of growing up inside a family that appeared loving, faithful and respected from the outside while Nat recounts experiencing abuse and secrecy behind closed doors. The book follows the effects of trauma into adulthood - distrust, self-destructive coping, mental health struggles and complicated relationships - as well as the people, treatment and hard-won self-awareness that helped Nat begin rebuilding. Nat is trans nonbinary and writes openly about the process of becoming comfortable in their identity and refusing to let other people's expectations define them. Their style is conversational, unfiltered and grounded in dark humor. Nat's purpose in sharing their story is straightforward: to break silence and help other survivors feel seen, heard and less alone.
