Bernie Bernstein is a former editor of Bicycling magazine, a road and track cyclist and a professional for an outdoor/technology/gaming communications strategy firm in Boulder, Colorado.
Bernie was hit by a van on July 20, 2019 while riding his bike home after a workout at a local velodrome. He laid in a ditch, critically injured for roughly 45 minutes before being found by a good samaritan. Bernie suffered catastrophic injuries that changed his life in an instant.
We didn’t get into the specifics of his accident, rather, we talked through his process of grieving, identity shifts, empathy and finding purpose.
