Description

Today I talked with John Hopper who is the social studies teacher and principal at Granada High School in southeast Colorado. Mr. Hopper has devoted much of his life to preserving the history of the Granada War Relocation Center which is also known as Camp Amache. Along with his students, he formed the Amache Preservation Society which operates the Amache Museum. The camp opened in August of 1942 and was occupied by Japanese Americans until October 1945. We talk about the decorated veterans who served their country while their families were imprisoned, the daily lives of the internees, and about the possibility of Camp Amache becoming a National Park.
