We do these things not because we are expected to but because we know they please Him. James isn't writing, as some claim, that works must be added to our faith in Jesus for our salvation. But James is saying that the demonstration of Christ's love - or what Paul calls the "new creature" - should be evident when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
