Matthew 6:10

In what is commonly called the Lord’s prayer, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done.” As we have seen, our prayers, in contrast to the hypocrites, are to be sincere. We are to have a genuine desire for the kingdom to come and God’s will to be done. But this raises a couple of questions. What is this kingdom we are asking to come? Is it already here in some sense? Also, what about God’s will? Isn’t God’s will done already? Can God’s will be thwarted (cf. Job 42:2; Isa 14:27; 46:10)?
