In this sermon, we look at part 2 of the surpassing righteousness that the Lord calls his disciples to in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said, “unless your righteousness exceeds [surpasses] that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt 5:20). Our text this week deals with this surpassing righteousness in the area of lust (Matt 5:27–30). Disciples of Jesus Christ must be radically committed to fighting against sin in their lives all the way down to the depths of their hearts.
