This week's route traces its origins back to before New York, New Amsterdam or any European presence in the New World. In 1946, Brooklyn Borough Historian James A. Kelly published a map that catalogued all instances of Native American roads pre-colonial settlement. Rediscovered in 2015 by blogger Heather Quinlan, we used the map to chart our marathon route for the week. It was a great opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the past traditions and current culture of New York's native people, the Lenape nation.
