Our guest this week is Lindsey Van Wagner who is based in Washington, D.C., and runs a wellness studio.

- Lindsey began drinking at 14 years old; initially, it was social drinking, but it escalated in her 20s.
- She used alcohol as an escape as she was struggling with perfectionism
- Despite her external appearance of success, her life was chaotic, involving blackouts, DUIs, and reckless behavior.
- She managed to quit using 12 step program but early sobriety was tough—she cried a lot and felt exposed.
- At 1.5 years sober, she hit a severe depression and was hospitalized for suicidal ideation.
- It was then that Lindsey realized that sobriety had revealed deeper mental health issues that needed attention.
- We agreed that recovery is not linear—there are highs and lows before we stabalise and can relax into our alcohol free life
- Over time, she found emotional balance, embracing wellness practices and creating a community.
- Lindsey has written a book called the Spirit Vigilante – it was Initially a memoir but evolved into a self-discovery guide with practical exercises.

- Her book covers themes like addiction, life purpose, emotional healing, and wellness.
- She encourages journaling as a tool for self-reflection and tracking progress.
- We agreed that the pain we go through as we hit rock bottom can be a catalyst for transformation.
- Sobriety is an adventure - a leap into the unknown which is scary, but staying stuck in our drinking is so much worse.
- Lindseys daily rituals for maintaining sobriety are:
- Writing and journaling.
- Staying connected with a supportive community.
- Staying active (walking, yoga, meditation).
