5 April 2026 | EASTER SUNDAY | One Story That Leads To Jesus – The Temple Sermon (1 Kings 6:11-13)

Growgroup Discussion Starters

Know Christ as King (Head – understanding God and the story)

1. God’s desire to dwell with His people unfolds across history: Eden (creation, before ~2000 BC; Genesis 3:8), the Tabernacle (~1446 BC; Exodus 25:8), Solomon’s Temple (~966 BC; 1 Kings 6–8), its destruction by Babylon (586 BC), Zerubbabel’s Temple (~516 BC; Ezra 6:15), its expansion by Herod (~20 BC), and its destruction by Rome (AD 70); how does seeing this timeline help you understand God’s persistent desire to be with His people?

2. In 1 Kings 6:11–13, what does God promise about His presence in the temple, and how does this point forward to Jesus as the true and lasting temple (John 2:19–21)?

Grow in Christlikeness (Heart – loving God and aligning our desires)

1. What stirs in you when you realize that across all these centuries, God’s consistent desire has been to dwell with His people—and now in you?

2. We often picture prayer as speaking “up” to God or “out” to somewhere distant—but if God dwells in us by His Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), how might it reshape your prayer life to think of speaking inward to God? What difference might that make to your sense of closeness, honesty, or dependence?

Show Christ to the world (Hands – living on mission)

1. If you are now a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), what is one concrete way that should shape your actions or choices this week?

2. How can you intentionally reflect God’s presence to someone this week—helping them see that God is not distant, but desires to be with them?
