Happy New Year, Mass Movieciders!  Let’s kick off 2014 with a brand spankin’ new
BONUS EPISODE!

Last month, Mass Moviecide had the privilege of attending
the screening and awards ceremony for THE ULTIMATE FILMMAKER CHALLENGE, in New York City.  The Ultimate Filmmaker Challenge (or TUF) is
a reoccurring competition in which filmmakers are tasked with assembling a team
and making a short film from start to finish in just 7 days.

At the beginning of the challenge, each team is assigned 3
criteria for their film; a prop, a line of dialogue, and a genre.  No two teams receive the same criteria, and
each team also gets to come up with the criteria for another team.

In the most recent competition, 14 teams raced against time
to put their visions on the big screen, and their tireless work was
obvious.  However, only one team can come
out on top, and that was Team Bridging and director Brian Pollock with their
film, “LUCKY DAY”.

Team Bridging had the following criteria:

Prop: A cheeseburger
Line: “I love Harry Potter.”
Genre: Dark Comedy

The result is “LUCKY DAY”.
A comedic short that covers everything from job loss to eviction to
auto-erotic asphyxiation.  “Lucky Day”
had TUF audiences laughing out loud as the lead character (played by director Brian
Pollock) walked them through what is certainly an unarguably bad day, to say
the least.  Brian and Team Bridging received
the title of “The Ultimate Filmmaker”, as well as a cash prize and a host of
other goodies.

Brian was cool enough to sit down with us, in-studio, to discuss his experience
with The Ultimate Filmmaker Challenge.
We also got into other topics including his background in
film/theater/and radio, his comedic influences like the Marx Bros., and Abbot
& Costello, and why it’s a great idea for other filmmakers of all levels to
enter The Ultimate Filmmaker Challenge.
