The Death of Jesus | Mark 15:33–41

In this Bible study, we come to one of the most significant moments in all of Scripture—the death of Jesus.

As Jesus hangs on the cross, darkness covers the land, He cries out with the words of Psalm 22, and the temple curtain is torn in two. In this moment, the barrier between God and humanity is removed.

In this verse-by-verse study of Mark 15:33–41, we explore:

• Why darkness covered the land from noon to 3 PM
• The meaning of Jesus’ cry, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
• The significance of the temple curtain tearing in two
• Why a Roman centurion declared Jesus to be the Son of God
• The faithful women who remained near the cross

What looked like defeat was actually the fulfillment of God’s plan of redemption.

Because of the cross, we now have forgiveness and access to God.
