“A Good Family Gone Bad” – Genesis 19:1–20
In this sobering sermon from Genesis 19, Pastor Jeff Cox addresses the all-important issue of the family. Lot’s life stands as a powerful warning of what happens when priorities slowly shift away from God and toward the world.
Pastor Cox asks a searching question: in our homes, do we—like Lot—allow the surrounding culture to so influence our families that even when we are removed from Sodom, Sodom is never removed from the hearts of our children? Lot had opportunities to teach his wife and children the ways of the Lord, yet instead they were shaped by the values of Sodom, with eternal consequences.
While it may be easy to stand in judgment of Lot, Pastor Cox reminds us that we are blessed not to have our sins and their results recorded for all to read. The story of Lot’s family serves as a warning for every home. This sermon calls parents and spouses to honest evaluation: your walk with God, your priorities, and the influences shaping your family. Are your children being indoctrinated by the culture of Sodom—or are they being taught the ways of God?
