"A Tale of Two Wives" – Leviticus 10:10; Exodus 11:7
In this thought-provoking sermon, Pastor Jeff Cox compares two women from Scripture who both experienced devastating loss and had knowledge of God: the wife of Lot and the wife of Job. Though their circumstances shared similarities, their endings could not have been more different. Lot’s wife looked back and was lost, while Job’s wife, though pushed to the brink by witnessing her husband’s intense affliction, remained.
Pastor Cox exposes the twin goals of Satan—to destroy the soul and to provoke denial of God—and shows how suffering becomes a battlefield for faith. The defining difference between these two women was not their trials, but their husbands and the spiritual leadership present in their homes.
In the end, Job’s story concludes with restoration—his wife by his side and a renewed family—while Lot’s tragic account ends in loss and brokenness. This sermon challenges listeners to discern between the holy and the profane, to remain steadfast in trial, and to recognize the vital influence of godly leadership in the home and in the midst of suffering.
