So, how did COINTELPRO finally come undone? In this episode, we trace the program’s collapse through the interconnected movements of the late 1960s and early 1970s...from the New Left and anti–Vietnam War protests, all the way to women’s liberation, the Catholic Left, and the American Indian Movement. By examining all that went into the FBI's cointelpro operations, such as surveillance, infiltration, and internal fractures, the episode shows how state appointed crimes created lasting harm both externally and within activist spaces themselves, culminating in the Media, Pennsylvania burglary and later, the Church Committee’s revelations.
