Being vulnerable in a relationship is the willingness to take a chance, to open oneself up and share your thoughts and feelings, what you believe and value, exposing your true intentions, fears and desires. Vulnerability is all about being open and honest enough with yourself to share with others your true thoughts and feelings.
When we are afraid to be vulnerable, we are afraid of how the other person will react. We can be afraid that we will be rejected or hurt, or that the relationship will end.
Often insecurities are the root cause of our fear, the biggest being “Not enough”.
Fear of conflict is the fear of having disagreements, arguments, differences in thoughts, feelings, interests or opinions. We fear any tension so we just want to “keep the peace”.
When we fear conflict, we tend to avoid, make premature decisions, and hide or suppress our true thoughts and feelings, which prevents us from having open and honest conversations.
How can we create a space for open and honest communication?
