Description

In Colonial America, Quilt making was common throughout the late 17th century and the early part of the 18th century, with quilts becoming decorative items that displayed the fine needlework of the maker. In the lead up to the Civil War quilting was used as a means to raise funds for the abolitionist movement.

Colleen Story’s handmade Fine Art Quilts reflect the natural wonders of her native Montana, replete with organic floral motifs and palettes inspired by such divergent artists as Claude Monet and Mark Rothko. Her quilts appear in the film, Larry McMurtry’s Return to Lonesome Dove. Colleen’s work has been exhibited in galleries and coffee shops throughout Montana, Illinois, California, and as far away as Prague in the Czech Republic. Colleen Story has also worked as a wardrobe assistant on films and for photographer David Yarrow. Colleen’s website is lifeasquilt.com. Find LifeasQuilt on Etsy.
