You can just tell when you are listening to a good teacher. You get the sense for it quickly. Some teachers are just gifted with the talent of teaching. Yet, when you read Mark 1:21-28, the people are amazed at Jesus teaching, but not just because he is talented. Jesus teaches with authority.
In this section from Mark 1:21-28, Jesus goes to the synagogue and is invited to teach the people. The people are amazed at what they hear from Jesus. But, this begs the question... what teaching did they hear? Although Mark 1:21-28 doesn't tell us, this sermon discusses what Jesus' teaching sounded like at this point in his ministry. His teaching differentiated him from all the other teachers at that time. AND his teaching had power. Jesus shows this power as he drives out an impure spirit.
Jesus still speaks authoritatively today and when he speaks, it happens. What does he say to you in his Word? What does he deliver to you through Baptism? What does he gift you in the Lord's Supper? Listen into this sermon to hear.
