Is it wrong to have ambition? Is it wrong to want to be great? The disciples were arguing on the road to Capernaum about who was the greatest and Jesus asked them about it. But, it is interesting that Jesus doesn't rebuke the disciples for their ambition, for their desire to be great. Jesus does direct the disciples to where their ambition ought to be directed - in humble service.
That's a difficult thing for any of us to grasp. We want to be great, we want to be first, we have ambition - but, by what means, for what purpose, and what motivates this ambition? Many times for us, it is selfish ambition and it is ambition for earthly things.
Jesus saves us from our selfish ambition. He saved us by selflessly humbling himself to save us. Jesus ambition was for us!
