Chapter Zero is a philanthropically funded membership organisation, incubated in Cambridge University as a project of the World Economic Forum. Their Purpose is to equip and inspire non-executive directors and Chairs to lead on climate from the boardroom. Chapter Zero’s business model is to partner across a suite of over 100 partners from academia and business schools, to search firms, law firms, NGOs, public policy organisations, board networks, communications firms and beyond. Partners bring the climate expertise and Chapter Zero translates this for the boardroom.The core membership is NEDs and Chairs from the FTSE 350 and large private companies, with representation from 81% of FTSE 100 organisations.
We talk about the role of the Board in integrating climate thinking into core strategic oversight, the types of initiatives that Chapter Zero is championing, the skills needed to be an effective Board member and the evolving nature of Board governance as we lean into the energy transition.
