Description

In today’s podcast I am joined by Jojo Mehta, Co-Founder of Stop Ecocide International, the organisation that has led the charge on the establishment of Ecocide as a crime at the International Criminal Court, designed to prevent the devastation of nature and protect life on Earth. Recently, the definition of “ecocide” was agreed by an international panel of eminent lawyers including within its ambit “unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and widespread or long term damage to the environment being caused by those acts.” We discuss the impact of the potential adoption of the definition by the ICC and member states, the key question of “who” is responsible, and considerations for the finance community and risk management frameworks.
