Hello there and welcome to our penultimate episode in this sixth season of Theatrical Shenanigans.
Today we are bringing you a play by Eva Schegulla (https://www.pagesonstages.fearlessink.com/)
Eva is a full-time writer publishing under multiple names in fiction and non-fiction, and an internationally-produced playwright and radio writer. She spent decades working in technical theatre and film production, including as a dresser on Broadway. She was a member of Toronto's Nightwood Theatre Creatryx Unit in 2023, and a member of the Northern Berkshire Artist Capacity Building Program in 2024. She is a member of WAM Theatre's Literary committee, a member of the Boiler House Poets Collective in annual residence at The Studios at MASS MoCA, and creates work with Word X Word.
Eva’s play is entitled “Inspired By” and when talking about her inspiration she says “A couple of years ago, I read an article in THE NEW YORKER about a French writer of autofiction, one of whose ex-wives was also a writer. She had put a clause in their divorce agreement that he could no longer write about her, and he was shocked when she enforced it. That reminded me of a couple of exes of mine who resented that, when we were together, I did not give up my writing to completely dedicate myself to the glory of their "art." I blended those ideas, these two characters emerged, and I had them sit down and thrash it out, they evolved into their own individuals separate from what I'd read about or experienced, and "Inspired By" was the result.”
Synopsis:
Amy has arranged to meet with her ex Roger following her sending a cease and desist letter regarding her inclusion in his latest book. Does Roger stand to lose his muse or will Amy buckle to the fact ‘he needs her’?
