Science fiction teaches us many useful lessons. One of the most oft-repeated of these is that when aliens invade us they will ultimately be done in by a lack of preparatory research. They usually miss something small but deadly, like the presence of harmful bacteria, or computer viruses . . . or water -- you know that researcher lost his job!
