God wanted to have such a deep relationship with the Israelites. It was God that pursued them and brought them out of the land of Egypt. But to keep that relationship with God, the Israelites need to step into obedience so that they could walk in that deeper relationship... Yes, that obedience included the removal of child Sacrifice!
