Jesus is the light of the world. Or, was? Sons of God in the earth are now the light of the world; this would mean that God is counting on sons in the exact same measure that He counted on Jesus, in the world.
This teaching seeks to jolt sons into a heightened sense of the consciousness of their place in God's scheme of things, because the onus for light to shine in the world is on Sons of God.
