Incentives are important. They are practical limitations that serve as guardrails, orienting the flow of ideas and innovation for the betterment of society itself. What happens when we incentivize negative or selfish behavior? We undermine not only commerce but the very principles on which modern civilization was founded, creating a world in which getting ahead demands moral or ethical compromises that eliminates the most valuable people from operating effectively within it.
