Why do we fear being alone? There is something terrifying built into the idea. In many ancient cultures the figure of the shaman was regarded as a leader, not only in the community setting but also in the spiritual realm. The path to becoming a shaman often involved isolation. The isolation seemingly serving as the means by which the individual gleaned deeper wisdom. Accepting this idea I ask you, are you afraid of being alone? If the answer is yes then the next question should be why.
