In a heated exchange between Jesus and some of Jerusalem's religious leaders, Jesus tells a parable to make a simple, devastating point. Obedience isn't about what you say you're going to do - it's about what you actually do. And as Bob Goff once put it, "God was a lot more concerned with the people who faked it than with the people who blew it." This story from Jesus invites us to humble repentance and active obedience. And we may just find that we're brushing up against God's Kingdom in the process.
About the Parables series: Jesus is the most famous teacher in world history. And his trademark teaching style was through parables - short stories and word pictures. He’d lead into one saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” This was His way of using everyday experiences to unveil eternal realities - fields and sheep and vineyards helped reveal ‘things hidden since the creation of the world.’ So if we want see God’s Kingdom the way Jesus did, we need to listen close when Jesus says, “It’s like this…”
