WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST
Ep 17.5: Sterling
Teaser Clip
Sterling- new noise from Milwaukee.
"Not that different. Not that new. But, damn, I kinda like it."
These are words Sterling is happy settling on. This new three-piece from Brew City is bringing back sounds reminiscent of 90's emo and gang vocals of punk classics- Writing music intended to engage the listener enough to stop staring at their cell phone and "feel" something.
"With very diverse lifestyles and backgrounds, the members of Milwaukee's Sterling, show their similarities through music. Exposing original "emo" roots tangled amongst hauntingly melodic vocals with flourishes of math and post-rock, this three piece outfit has developed a unique style in just a few short months.
Capitalizing on the fact that, in a trio, each instrument takes center stage at all times; Sterling play to each other's skillsets cultivating an openness for each others creativity.
Vocal duties are shared and often harmonized, placed strategically and only when deemed most fitting. Waiting for the world to reopen, Sterling have partnered with Shane Hochstetler (Decibully, Direct Hit!) and Carl Saff (Bonnie Prince Billy, Russian Circles) to record their debut, releasing October.
