In June 1924, British mountaineers George Mallory and Andrew “Sandy” Irvine disappeared while attempting to reach the world's highest summit.
Were they successful?
Did they reach the top nearly three decades before Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay completed the first confirmed ascent?
Or did the mountain claim them before they reached their goal?
For a century, the answer remained hidden beneath the snow and ice.
Then, in September 2024, a National Geographic expedition led by Jimmy Chin discovered an old climbing boot emerging from an ice field below Everest's North Face.
Inside were human remains.
A name sewn into the sock offered an extraordinary clue.
