Description

On September 11, 2001, passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 learned that America was under attack—and realized their hijacked airplane was intended to become another weapon.

Through phone calls with loved ones on the ground, passengers discovered that two airplanes had struck the World Trade Center and another had hit the Pentagon. They understood what was happening. And they made an extraordinary decision.

They would fight back.

At approximately 9:57 a.m., passengers and crew launched their counterattack. Among the words forever associated with their courage were those spoken by passenger Todd Beamer:

“Let’s roll.”

Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before reaching its suspected target in Washington, D.C. Everyone aboard was killed, but the passengers' courageous actions likely prevented an even greater tragedy on one of America's darkest days.

Then, commemorate Patriot Day, revisit construction of the Pentagon, celebrate Florence Chadwick's historic English Channel swim, remember the premiere of The Carol Burnett Show, and return to the beginning of the home video-game revolution with the Atari 2600.

Plus, relive Pete Rose's record-breaking 4,192nd hit, celebrate jazz musician and actor Harry Connick Jr., remember Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, and continue our “6:7” devotional journey with 2 Kings 6:7 and the reminder that God cares about even the smallest details of our lives.
