This week marks the release of Madonna’s new album Rebel Heart, but the idea for this mix
actually came to me a while ago when my wife and I were on one of our many long
car rides from New York City to our hometown of Pittsburgh:

Inevitably we’ll have a disagreement of what music should be
played, but for some reason or another Madonna always seems to be our common
ground. From there we’ll pass the iPod back and forth choosing between songs.
On one of those rides I thought about how convenient it
would be to actually have a Madonna mix. Notice how I didn’t say “playlist,”
because in the age of the iPod/short attention span it has become more and more
difficult to listen to complete songs, especially when your partner (or yourself)
is impatiently waiting for the next track.
Hence, I began cracking away on Madonna POWER HOUR!, a mix of high-energy Madonna songs, sure to
keep a driver or passenger awake on a long car-ride—which also doubles as a
great workout/running mix when you finally do get out of the car.
Material-wise, there’s nothing too obscure here, but it does
concentrate heavily on the latter half of Madonna’s career, when she fully
embraced the sect of her audience that likes to get their boogie-woogie on!
I’m hoping the placement of these Madonna songs gives them a
fresh perspective for you, and if you’re still stuck in the ‘80s maybe you’ll
discover some new favorites.
Finally, as an ode to my days of making mix-tapes on actual 60-minute
tapes, the Madonna POWER HOUR! is
just that—an hour (60 minutes to the second) of POWER!
(Oh the fun and frustration of time limitations.)
Enjoy!
