1. The Critical Need Jesus warns Simon Peter that Satan desires to sift him as wheat, meaning a violent shaking to test his faith. The disciples were unaware of the spiritual warfare around them, distracted by strife and disputes, debating who among them was greatest. Satan's strategy is deception and diversion, making believers fight among themselves rather than recognizing him as the real enemy. 2. The Common Weapon Jesus says, "I have prayed for thee", showing that prayer is the weapon even He used. Jesus didn't pray for Peter to avoid the attack but that his faith would not fail during the trial. We must use this weapon consistently, trusting that God will sustain us even in the hardest trials. 3. The Confident Assurance Jesus speaks with confidence: "When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." He already sees the victory, knowing Peter will rise again after falling. We, too, should pray with faith and expectation, believing that God will restore and use His people for His purposes.
