Erinome:Hello dear friends, today we are going to talk about JD.com's 2025 Q2 financial report. It has some interesting numbers!

Enceladus:Oh, JD.com? I know them, they sell things online. How was their report?

Erinome:Wow, their revenue was 356.7 billion yuan! That's 22.4% higher than last year.

Enceladus:22.4%? That's a big jump! Did people expect that?

Erinome:Um, before the report, some said maybe 335.5 to 337.1 billion yuan. So they did better than expected!

Enceladus:Nice! What about users? More people shopping there?

Erinome:Yes! Active users grew over 40% this quarter. You know, in today's internet, getting 40% more users is really rare.

Enceladus:Why so many new users? Did they do something special?

Erinome:Mainly because of their new food delivery business. They started it in February this year.

Enceladus:Food delivery? Like Meituan or Ele.me?

Erinome:Yes! In Q2, their daily orders hit 25 million. And over 1.5 million stores joined them.

Enceladus:Wow, that's fast! How did they deliver so many orders?

Erinome:They have 150,000 full-time riders. And guess what? JD gives them social insurance and housing fund. Different from others!

Enceladus:That's good for riders! But... does it cost a lot?

Erinome:Oh yes, sad to hear that. Their new businesses, like food delivery, lost 14.8 billion yuan in Q2.

Enceladus:14.8 billion? That's a big loss! Why?

Erinome:They spent a lot on subsidies. Like "spend 15 yuan, get 14 off" promotions. And marketing costs went up to 27 billion yuan, 7.6% of revenue.

Enceladus:So their profit went down?

Erinome:Yes. Net profit was 7.4 billion yuan this quarter, but last year it was 14.5 billion. That's 51.6% lower.

Enceladus:Is it worth it then? Spending so much for food delivery?

Erinome:Um, maybe. Because more users came, and they bought more things on JD's main platform. Retail revenue grew 20%, and profit margin was 4.5%—a new high!

Enceladus:Oh right! The food delivery brought more people to shop. That's smart.

Erinome:You know, they also changed their strategy. They stopped "0 yuan purchases" and said no more crazy subsidies. Now focus on service quality.

Enceladus:Good move. No more wasting money. Did orders drop?

Erinome:A little, but still around 20 million daily. And riders have better protection. They signed an agreement: no more than 11 hours work, rest after 4 hours, stop in bad weather.

Enceladus:That's important. Riders need safe jobs.

Erinome:Yes! So even with short-term losses, JD is building a better service. Maybe in the future, it will pay off.

Enceladus:Hope so. It's not easy to fight in the food delivery market.

Erinome:Exactly. Okay, that's it for today. Let's talk again next time!

Enceladus:Bye!
