Erinome:Yes! Let's start with August 2nd. There are two big movies that day. First, "Lang Lang Shan Little Monsters" from Shanghai Animation Film Studio. It's the first movie from "China Strange Tales", you know that?
Enceladus:Oh right! I saw the intro. It's not about the big hero Sun Wukong, but the small monsters on the Journey to the West road. They are like ordinary people, but brave. That sounds relatable!
Erinome:Exactly! The story says their courage encourages every ordinary person. So sweet. And the same day, "Tom and Jerry: Star Disk Adventure" is coming too!
Enceladus:Wow, Tom and Jerry! It's their 85th anniversary movie! They moved the release date to August 2nd and started pre-sales. The theme song is by Ma Siwei, a famous Chinese rapper. The song is called "Shu Ni Hui Rap?" (Do You Know Rap?).
Erinome:Haha, cute title! The movie has their classic chase, but adds Eastern fantasy elements. They go through an Eastern secret place with roof神兽 (shenshou, mythical animals) and have an adventure in 12 hours. Sounds fun for kids and adults!
Enceladus:Then on August 8th, there's "Dongji Island". Oh, I read about this! It's a true story about Chinese fishermen rescuing British prisoners of war.
Erinome:Yes! 1816 British prisoners were trapped, and Japanese soldiers were chasing them. The fishermen came like "god soldiers" to save them. It shows Chinese people's bravery. Directed by Guan Hu and Fei Zhenxiang, with Zhu Yilong, Wu Lei, Ni Ni as main actors.
Enceladus:That must be a sad but brave story. And another August 8th movie: "Adventure"! It's a comedy about soul swap. A 43-year-old man and his 18-year-old self switch bodies.
Erinome:贾冰 (Jia Bing) and 王皓 (Wang Hao) play the two versions. Imagine a middle-aged man in a teenager's body and vice versa. So many funny moments, I bet!
Enceladus:Moving to August 16th! "The Bad Guys 2" from DreamWorks! The first movie was the top imported animation in 2022. Now the bad guys want to be good, but a new group "Wild Sisters" asks them to join a big plan. Oh no, their quiet life is over!
Erinome:Haha, "re-bad" adventure! Should be hilarious. And "Wind and Shadow Chase" on the same day. Jackie Chan, Zhang Zifeng, and Tony Leung Ka-fai are in it!
Enceladus:Yes! Jackie Chan plays a tracking expert, and Zhang Zifeng is his student. They form a "mysterious tracking team" to fight Tony Leung's villain group. High-tech and high IQ battles, action-packed!
Erinome:Then August 29th, Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day), there are two love movies. "7 Days" and "A Cloud Like You".
Enceladus:"7 Days" is about a dentist who can see the love time above girls' heads. He meets a girl, and their love only lasts 7 days. Oh, that's sad but romantic. Starring Jiang Qiming and Zhang Yifan.
Erinome:And "A Cloud Like You"! A man who passed away comes back to his wife during the first rain of the rainy season. They try to rewrite their love story. Starring Qu Chuxiao and Wang Ziwen. So sweet, I might cry.
Enceladus:Also on August 29th, "Tuo Jiang Zhe Ye" (The Runaway) by Cao Baoping. It's a Tianjin-style black humor comedy. Guo Qilin plays a man who returns to Tianjin and takes his nephew on a "crazy" trip.
Erinome:Black humor is Cao Baoping's style. Should be full of funny and unexpected moments. Now, big news: the 2025 summer box office (June-August) has passed 7 billion yuan! Wow, that's a lot!
Enceladus:Yes! As of August 3rd, it's over 7 billion. "Nanjing Photo Studio", "Chang'an's Lychee", and "Jurassic World: Reborn" are the top three. August 3rd single day票房 even hit 375 million yuan, a new high this summer!
Erinome:That's amazing. Also, the SCO Film Festival closed in Chongqing. They showed 28 films from SCO countries. "The Three Brigades" (China) and "Air Battle" (Russia) won Best Film.
Enceladus:Oh right! And "Mountain and River as Proof", a documentary about China's 14-year War of Resistance, is set to release on August 15th, to remember the 80th anniversary of victory. That's important history.
