🗣️ BILINGUAL SCRIPT (中英对照 · 辅助理解)

Mandy: [Sighs] Patrick, I am so confused. I went on three dates with this guy, Mike. We had a great time!

Mandy: But now... nothing. I texted him three days ago. No reply. I called him yesterday. No answer. Is he okay? Did he lose his phone?

Patrick: Ah, Mandy. I hate to tell you this, but he probably didn't lose his phone. Welcome to Beyond English. It sounds like he is: Ghosting you.

Mandy: Ghosting? Like a spirit?

Mandy: Ghosting?

Patrick: Exactly. Think about a ghost. Now you see it, now you don't. It vanishes into thin air without a sound.

Patrick: To "ghost" someone means to end a relationship by suddenly stopping all communication. No explanation, no goodbye. Just silence.

Patrick: "Ghost"

Mandy: That is so rude! And cowardly! Why not just say "I am not interested"?

Patrick: Because people fear confrontation. They think silence is easier than having a difficult conversation.

Mandy: It hurts more, though. I prefer the truth. So, this is mostly for dating?

Patrick: It started in dating, but now we use it everywhere.

Patrick:

Mandy: Can I use it for friends? Like, if my friend stops texting me?

Patrick: Yes. If your friend ignores you for weeks with no reason, you can say: "I think my friend is ghosting me."

Mandy: What about at work? Can I ghost a job interview?

Mandy:

Patrick: You can, but you shouldn't! It is very unprofessional.

Patrick:

Patrick: If you "ghost" a recruiter, you burn a bridge. You might never get a job at that company again.

Mandy: Okay, never ghost at work. Got it. Now, Patrick, is "Ghosting" the same as "Drifting apart"?

Patrick: No, they are very different. "Drifting apart" is slow and mutual. Both people stop texting gradually. It is natural.

Mandy: And ghosting?

Mandy: 那 ghosting 呢?

Patrick: "Ghosting" is sudden and one-sided. One person wants to talk, and the other person disappears.

Patrick: "Ghosting"

Mandy: I see. Ghosting is a shock. Drifting apart is a fade.

Patrick: Ideally, we should all be brave enough to say goodbye. Listeners, have you ever been ghosted?

Mandy: Or... have you ghosted someone? Be honest! Tell us in the comments.

Patrick: Thanks for listening. Don't ghost us! Subscribe!

Patrick:

Mandy: See you next time!

Mandy:
