Irish boxing has welcomed a host of new pros in the last few years and Limerick fighter Jamie Morrissey is among the most interesting of the crop. He’s clearly willing to fight anyone, going by his record across five bouts to date. He’s up for testing himself, already claiming two BUI Celtic titles against unbeaten opponents. And his pre- and post-fight interviews alert you to a thoughtful, intelligent man who seems to be on a mission from God. Here, Jamie discusses the time he ran in an election and the friend who inspired him to have a go at politics. He talks about his podcast and finding boxing as an adult and what it means to him. Limerick’s fighters are a rare breed and he gives an insight into the causes that drive them individually and as a group. Jamie has also been dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for most of his life and he tells The Rocky Road about how it’s affected him up to this point, how he combats it, and God’s role in that fight – in and out of the ring. Morrissey will rematch Kerry’s Kevin Cronin for the Irish title in Galway on April 21 on a bill topped by Kieran Molloy in his homecoming, which will be screened on TG4. Their first bout earlier this year was a war and fans are in for a treat as they go again.
