I was trying to replace the floors in my bathroom and had plentiful issues with the contractor laying the floor. After a lot of back and forth chatter, I had to stay in a hotel to avoid the angst in the house.

After this situation, I’ve realized the importance of researching the companies to a high degree before you decide to let them into your home. Your home is your sanctuary and you should be able to live in it without interruption.

I had someone ask me recently, “how can I break a lease due to an unresponsive landlord?” And my answer was simple, “I’m not sure you can.” After learning about her living condition, I told her to explore the possibility to calling in the health department.

When a landlord signs a tenant to take over the lease on their property, they are hiring the tenant to take care of the property and are paying to use it. However, appliances that are not functional shouldn’t be a point of contention in a lease. If it’s not functioning, it’s not in any condition to be used. Making sure the entire property is in working condition is essential before you sign anything
