Description

If you place a higher value on things you make, as opposed to a pre-made purchased version of the same thing, you may be susceptible to the Ikea effect. A cognitive bias which makes us feel things WE have a hand in, are better than similar alternatives. Fair enough if you're a do-it-yourselfer. But if you're designing solutions to problems that you hope people will buy, you must explore ideas other than the ones you came up with. This is the design world's version of the ikea effect, but it's called "design fixation". Avoid it at all costs.
