Let me paint a picture for you . . . someone pings your inbox, it’s an inquiry.
“I need a _____, how much do you charge?”
👆Possible Reaction A:
Scrambles, panics and worries that they won’t be able to produce results and then thinks through all of the 2,367 steps and possible outcomes, then messages a friend and asks what she would do, but the friend is just as lost as you. . . 😬
⏰ Time is slipping by and the response is there still, blinking, mocking your seeming inability to give a proposal.
You think about it, add it all up and think “that’s too much, they won’t pay that… I mean COVID”
I will give them a deal… 💸
So what should have been a $10,000 proposal becomes a $1,200 proposal that gets snapped up because it IS dirt cheap and the SAME vicious cycle begins again…. “I hate sales” and “Customers are jerks” 😤
Resentment follows and burning the midnight oil resumes.
Worst thing is... The client loves you so much they refer you to all of their friends who also now think you can move heaven and earth for what ended up being less per hour than you tip the barista on your double mocha skim half caf venti.
YUP.

You see the inquiry, and look THEM up.
Find a connection. Ask around about THEM. 👀
Discover some talking points and questions YOU have before making anyyyyyy type of possible proposal.
Send them a form to fill out or book a call and YOU get to ask questions so that you can see the FULL picture of their situation. 🤲
You see what they need and start with a small project first so that you can see what type of client they are to work with.
You know how to upsell at the appropriate strategic time and for those clients who you love working with, you are able to create continued offers that allow them to keep you on retainer for a recurring fee and you get to be a part of their growing business as a thought partner, not JUST a worker bee trading dollars for hours.❌
These are two of thousands of possible scenarios of how an initial inquiry might play out.
