Recalls for the week:
- 2015-16 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras. The roof rail airbag inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture. A separated inflator end cap or rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components propelling into the cabin, increasing the risk of injury or a crash. To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the left and right-side roof rail airbag modules for free. Chevy and GMC parent automaker GM will send interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk Aug. 16; owners will receive a second notice when a remedy is available. - 2017-19 Chevrolet Silverado 2500s and 3500s and GMC Sierra 2500s and 3500s equipped with Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engines and the optional cord. An electrical short circuit may cause a occur in the engine block heater cable or in the terminals that connect the heater cable to the block heater, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will disable the block heater for free. Chevrolet and GMC parent GM will provide free replacement block heaters and cords under a separate customer satisfaction campaign, though for trucks under a previous recall, the heater cord will be replaced and rerouted for free. GM will begin notifying owners Aug. 16, but those with further questions can call Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 800-462-8782, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236
- 2004-07 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks. A shattered plastic emblem could strike both the driver and occupants in the event of the steering wheel’s airbag going off, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers will simply replace the airbag module cover for free. Mazda will begin notifying owners Aug. 28, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 800-222-5500, option No. 4, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236
