Description

In this episode, Krista connects with Jeanne de Kroon, and discovers the beautiful story behind her fashion business, Zazi. Jeanne reveals how her travels in India, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan inspired her to start collecting, designing and selling her distinctive clothes, which are produced in collaboration with artisans skilled in traditional techniques. By promoting the beauty of artisanal designs, Jeanne hopes to play her part in preserving local cultures and she has made it her mission to share the stories of the talented women who produce her garments. Conscious of her privilege and keen to avoid cultural appropriation, Jeanne aspires to create a culture of co-creation and celebration with the artisans she engages.

Determined to carve her own path in the fashion industry, she has recently made the decision to stop working with other retailers and concentrate on developing her own brand. In contrast to the clothes that are produced for the fast fashion market, Zazi’s creations are colorful, unique and steeped in tradition. Jeanne has woven authenticity and transparency into her business model and hopes that a change in consumer attitudes will force the fashion industry to develop more honest, ethical and sustainable practices.
