GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER! We’re touching down on LV-426 in James Cameron’s incendiary 1986 sequel ALIENS. We’ll be revisiting the whole Alien franchise in true, confusing Rewind fashion not in release order, but in the order we watched them as kids.
Thawed out of cryostasis almost 60 years after her first terrifying ordeal with the Xenomorphs, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is badgered by a sleazy executive from the shady Weyland-Yutani Corporation in to acting as an ‘advisor’ on a mission to investigate the far-flung terraforming colony Hadley’s Hope, situated on the same planet that Ripley barely managed to escape from, with which the company has lost contact. Gearing up alongside the rugged Colonial Marines, which includes badass Vasquez (Jenette Goldstein), wild card Hudson (Bill Paxton), and ice cool Hicks (Michael Biehn), Ripley’s worst fears are confirmed when familiar, nightmare fuel creatures wipe out most of the team almost immediately.
As Ripley finds herself responsible for the sole survivor of the colony, a small girl called Newt, she must rely on only her wits and courage to survive and escape. Join Gali, Devlin, Patrick and Matt as they travel back in time to one of the seminal movies of most of our panel’s youths, a movie that detonated a popular sci-fi horror film into a multi-armed media franchise and arguably created an entire subgenre of imitators. Hop on the express elevator to hell, GOING DOWN!
