VAYA CON DIOS! We’re turning a petrol pump flamethrower on to this chilly winter weather and heading to sunny L.A., where the air got dirty and the sex got clean, for a blast of surfing, skydiving, and stealing with Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 action classic Point Break.
Quarterback punk and Quantico blue-flamer Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) arrives in town and is assigned his new partner, grizzled/insane FBI vet Pappas (Gary Busey), who has an interesting theory about the string of summer bank heists committed by a gang of guys calling themselves the Ex-Presidents, rubber mask-clad and disguised as Reagan, Nixon, Carter & Johnson. His hunch - that the gang are sssssssurfers - leads Utah to go undercover with a board like a ‘57 Chevy and try to enlist sassy Tyler (Lori Petty) to teach him to surf, before his head is noticeably turned by the enigmatic waverider Bodhi (Patrick Swayze). The two men form a fascinating, subversive bond even as one unwittingly pursues the other, leading to some remarkably heated chases and no small amount of shooting guns off and going ‘aaargh’.
