Description

Today, in the act of building, one of the answers to climate change lies in the idea of rehabilitating buildings and cities. From now on, Tabula Rasa is no longer on the agenda, which is certainly making the older generation of architects nostalgic: work built ex-nihilo is becoming a rare commodity! This also seems to have the effect of authorizing the dispensation of architectural lessons for the younger generation: an illusion. It also gives a glimmer of hope to heritage enthusiasts who may be able to say to themselves that, at last, some endangered architecture may escape a sad fate thanks to this new impetus, perhaps not.

In any case, the subject is a complex one! To open the theme, in this spot issue of Com d'Archi, we take as our starting point the fact that rehabilitation is an established fact. We illustrate this with the beautiful rehabilitation of the Waalwijk factory in the Netherlands by the Civic agency. But is it a question of rehabilitation or transformation?

We'll be coming back to this theme throughout Season 5!
