It is always a joy to speak to my coach Julia Chi Taylor about her incredible life. I met Julia in a particularly difficult personal period, and she has been offering me foundational guidance ever since! Julia is a lifetime runner, and we discuss the process of how this passion developed a competitive edge and how particular challenges affected Julia's athletic experience. We also speak about her international marathon career, in which Julia ran the 26.2 miles in 2 hours and 36 minutes! She offers some brilliant tips for marathon preparation, and we explore the benefits of long slow distance within a training regime. Running can be incredible for clearing tension, but can also exist as an area of extreme pressure and attachment, and we investigate this in regard to injury and mentality. Additionally we look into Julia's experience with barefoot running and living, and address her unbelievable Barefoot Across Spain challenge, in which Julia ran 140km a week in her bare feet for 7 weeks from Suances in the North to Almunecar in the South. Our conversation also goes into Julia's nomadic adventure with her husband Anadi, and her exploration into minimalism. Finally, we speak about Julia's amazing work as a mentor for a vast range of individuals, in which she has used her life experiences to encourage others to live with increased awareness, fulfilment and happiness.
