Description

Did you ever think we would go backwards in gender parity within government cabinets around the world? Neither did we. It’s happening in countries like Hungary, where they now have an all-male cabinet.

On a more positive note, the Matildas v Canada Women’s World Cup match became Channel 7’s most watched program of the year. We think Brazilian soccer icon Marta’s brilliant press conference speech sums up the rise in women’s football quite nicely: “20 years ago, in 2003, nobody knew Marta – it was my first World Cup. Twenty years later we have become the reference for women all over the world.”

We take a look at all this, plus the cost of living and how it’s affecting women more acutely in climate disaster-affected areas, as well as Senator David Pocock’s new ‘duty of care’ climate bill.

Stories discussed this week include:

The countries that still have all-male cabinets

Women more likely to be multiple job holders than men

The ‘duty of care’ bill is a chance for the government to show it cares about young people

‘Incredibly hard’: Climate disasters amid a cost-of-living crisis impacting women most acutely

‘I didn’t have a female idol, you guys didn’t show female games’: Marta on the persistence from players that progressed women’s football

Matildas win was Seven’s most watched program of the year
