Description

Hiiiiii & welcome back to another episode! Today's guest is the gorgeous and kind-hearted Basjia Almaan. Basjia is a mixed race woman with Greek and Cameroonian ancestry who grew up in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, but she never really felt like she belonged there. She looked different to the kids around her and her difference led her to become ashamed of her body. So she tried fad diets, running for kms a day and straightening her hair in an attempt to fit in. But it wasn't til she moved out of the Eastern Suburbs that she saw more people who looked like her and realised that all she had to do to fit in was be herself. Now, Basjia embraces herself and works professionally as a model. Her Instagram (@basjia @styledbybasjia) is a big part of her self-expression, which sometimes works in her favour and sometimes doesn't. Basjia and I chat about all of this and share some off-putting, but hilarious, DMs that she's received as a response to her IG. Hope you enjoy listening to the podcast as much as I enjoy recording them! Rate ~ subscribe ~ share!
