Geraldine's story is truly remarkable. You will adore this woman! Born and bred in Adelaide, Geraldine left school at the end of year 9 and went straight to secretarial college, as many girls did back in the 60's. After a few years of doing general secretarial work, she applied for the Foreign Service and her first posting was in Cambodia. While she was there, she experienced the war with Vietnam and, as she says, she 'loves danger' - and boy oh boy did she find herself in some predicaments along the way!
Geraldine then moved all over the world, working in countries as diverse as Iran and the USA before coming full circle and heading back to Cambodia. While she was there she was asked to help a group of 24 children that were stuck in a camp on the Thai border, and so Sunrise Cambodia was born. Her stories of navigating the delicate political landscape are totally gripping - especially the one about how she ended up in her own home. This 78 year old woman is still fundraising every year to finance the Foundation, and is still looking for help from people and organisations who can assist her vision.
