Survivor Vera Lee details her experience of coercive control, domestic abuse and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband.
In this episode Vera Lee goes into detail the beginning of her relationship with the man who would become her husband. This discussion highlights the entrapping nature of coercive control, the extreme lengths at which the perpetrator would go to for complete control and the massively damaging toll this abuse took on her.
We begin to discuss the nature of healing as a survivor, and touch on topics within domestic and sexual abuse that are often taboo.
Thank you for being so open, honest and raw with part 1 of your story Vera Lee, you are an absolute warrior woman.
Vera Lee has also started the Why Me Movement which is a podcast and website. The WhyMe Movement was founded by Vera-Lee Curnow after multiple near death experiences and adversities in her life. One pivotal moment waking from a coma where she was not expected to survive, Vera-Lee explains how opening her eyes to the world with a fresh perspective, seeing colours with more vibrance, feeling the warmth of the sun like it was the first time again and knowing she never wanted to ask herself WhyMe in woeful unempowered feeling again, She decided that was the last time she was going to feel controlled by adversity into darkness.
