Despite being a band director for over 20 years, I have managed to preserve my hearing. I've never been a fan of loud noises close to my eardrum, so I don't normally use headphones. However, I recently picked up a pair of conduction headphones, which are really nice for listening to podcasts, and leave your ears free to hear ambient noise.
